Welcome to the web site for the Social Ecology Institute of British Columbia..

This web site has two primary objectives.

  1. To serve as a knowledge and information resource for individuals and community-based organizations who are interested in environmental integrity, sustainable living, social and economic equity, and human health and well-being.

  2. To provide a forum for a general discussion on the subject of “social ecology” in the local, community-based context of small and rural communities of British Columbia. This will be a forum for discussion on any topics related to sustainable living: e.g., alternative energy systems, sustainable economies, sustainable capitalism, food security issues, local food production and merchandising, water management, bioregionalism, permaculture, biodynamic gardening, organic farming and gardening, impacts of climate change, impacts of decreasing fossil fuel supplies, and human nature, among others.

The chief purpose of this discussion is to promote a local dialogue, and ultimately, local action on how we, as residents of British Columbia, can build a sustainable, community-based economy, and can live sustainably in light of serious issues such as climate-change impacts, increasing energy costs, escalating environmental degradation, and growing social and economic inequity.

This web site is intended to be interesting, relevant, inclusive, interactive, civil, informative, provocative, and challenging.  It can be so only with your participation.

This Institute and this site are works-in-progress.  Any comments, suggestions, and critiques are welcome.  If you have some recommendations for links to other web sites, please send them to us. Thank you.
